Cultured Pearls, the standard in today's jewelry market, are produced by intentionally introducing an irritant into farmed oysters or mussels. Their luster and color are entirely natural for white and cream tones; other colors may be achieved through dyeing. Major sources include Japan, China, Australia, and French Polynesia.
